Are you afraid of demons? Do you believe in them, or that they are real? What about angels? If you believe in one of them, do you have to believe that they both exist?
Some people believe so strongly in demons and angels that they believe they exist alongside you and me, right now.
Ancient stories have said that demons only exist if you speak their name. Even speaking about them at all would harm you. Somehow, you could conjure one up by chanting or calling their name. Simple conjuring of a name could call up a small imp, or smaller type of demon, while chanting long spells could bring darkness upon whole towns.
When I was a small girl, my bed was about three inches away from the wall, leaving a small crack I could slip my arm into. Sometimes the air from the A/C vents would blow up the crack, and I would place my arm down it to feel the cool of the air. Sometimes I would fit my foot in the space, to cool myself off.
One night, I was suffering from a fever, and could not hold my temperature in a place I felt comfortable. I tossed and turned, trying to find a good position. My leg popped out of the covers, then it would get cold, so I would put the blanket back on. I just could not get comfortable.
I decided to put my arm down the wall again, expecting the sensation I was used to, the cool comfortable air. But this time, something completely different happened.
As my arm slid down, I decided to try to reach as far down as possible. Once my arm went as far as it could, I lay it there for a little while, just feeling comfortable for the moment.
That's when something grabbed my fingers.
The fingers felt rough and soft at the same time. Thin, and bony.
I immediately dashed my arm out of the crack, and stuck it all the way under the covers, pulling them up to my chin. I couldn't breathe. I was shocked.
What had just grabbed me? What could be under my bed?
It took me a long time, laying there under the blanket, to even think to call for my parents.
What would I say to them? Mom, there is a hand under my bed? She wouldn't believe me.
So I finally worked up the courage to get out of my bed and look underneath it. I was so scared I could hardly breathe, and felt as if I could cry just thinking about it. But I got myself up out of that bed out of pure determination to find out what was there, and get it OUT of there if there was!
As I slowly gathered enough strength to look underneath the bed, I lowered my head to see.
Some teddy bears, barbie dolls, some random legos, paper, stuff...
But nothing near the spot my arm would have been. Nothing, nada, zilch.
Not even a toy that could have brushed off as the culprit.
My heart raced, and my brain said "run!" so I jumped back in bed and covered myself tight like a cocoon.
What had touched me? I may never know. But I will always feel those fingers, grasping, holding, and sliding onto mine. It has burned into my memory.
One day, I told a friend about this, and he almost panicked and left the room. I did not ever expect such a reaction from someone, and honestly that is why I had never told anyone the story before.
His belief in demons was so strong, he was convinced that it was what had touched me that night, so long ago.
Now, I do not know what I believe, but I do know I feel haunted.
I feel as though those fingers will always be grasping for me, lurking inside the cracks between my bed and the wall.

it's the holiday season and we are excited to enjoy the wonderful cool weather.
as we texans know full and well, it isn't cold much here in the houston area. When it is, you either love it or hate it, with no in between.
as tour guides, we go through a lot of issues with deciding what to wear when it's cold out, or the normal SWELTERING hot.
here are some of our costumes over the years!
I have no idea what we will come up with next. But i cant wait to see!
hope everyone has a super awesome holiday season.
